(Journal) How We All Rebel Against God

Updated: Aug 1

We know that rebelling against God can take many forms such as an outward condemnation of what we dislike about him or denying his existence, but we often forget that all of our daily acts that aren't according to his will is also one form of rebelling. These are acts we frequently brush off as being natural social phenomena including gossip, lying, hating, and not forgiving others.

Now, I emphasize this to demonstrate that all of us rebel against God in some form or another. What is worse about us is that we rebel against God with everything he's blessed us with such as money, athleticism, beauty, intelligence, and career. Instead of using these gifts to glorify God, we often use them to fulfill our own desires, take advantage of others, and gain all the praise ourselves. Too often, we become prideful and cease to seek God. Then, we begin to take control of our lives and feel a disconnect from God until we come to either feel complete misery or come to mess up our lives - drunk, drugged up, gamble, promiscuity, suicide, etc. The way to prevent this is to ensure our daily acts are in accordance with the will of God, which we become knowledgable of by reading the bible.

This analogy will help us understand how foolish we are to rebel against God:

A young boy gets $100 as allowance from his parents. One day, the boy begins to boast about the money and people around him praise him for having so much money considering his age. The boy becomes prideful and begins to think that he has rightly earned the money through his talent and effort. Waving the $100, the boy rebels against his parents saying, "I don't need you guys anymore, look at how great I am."

Many of us are that very young boy. We boast to God about all that we've done when it was God that gifted us with the skills and opportunities in the first place. This is why we need to keep close to God because without him we are exactly that boy that will soon use it up and have nowhere to go except back to the forgiving parents.
